O novo PLC 122 a exemplo da Lei Maria da Penha, lei que tornou mais rigoroso o tratamento de crimes cometidos contra a mulher, será batizada de Lei Alexandre Ivo, em homenagem ao adolescente que foi assassinado supostamente por ser gay.
Segundo a assessoria da senadora Marta Suplicy (PT-SP), o novo texto do projeto foi elaborado em um trabalho conjunto com os senadores Demóstenes Torres (DEM-GO), Marcelo Crivella (PRB-RJ) e com o presidente da Associação de Lésbicas, Gays, Bissexuais, Travestis e Transexuais (ALGBT), Toni Reis.
