Em entrevista à coluna “Direto da Fonte”, do jornal “O Estado de S.Paulo”, Edmundo falou sobre o breve relacionamento que teve com Cristina Mortágua, mãe do seu filho Alexandre.
Eu era recém-casado com minha ex-mulher e, durante uma noitada, engravidei a mãe do Alexandre – hoje com 16 anos. Não tivemos um relacionamento, mas ela fez questão de mostrar a gravidez para aparecer”, disse, referindo à Cristina Mortágua.
Sobre ter um filho homossexual, o ex-jogador disse: “Ele nunca me falou: ’Pai, sou gay’. Mas claro que não sou idiota, ele tem aparência total. E vi a mãe dele falando na TV. Mas não muda nada. Respeito e admiro igualmente. Tenho muitos amigos gays. Mas é claro que quando é com o outro é mais fácil, mais legal. Quando é na nossa família fica mais difícil. Por mais que não seja preconceituoso, ninguém quer ter um filho homossexual, até pelo preconceito que ele vai sofrer”.
